12. Stow Day 1
Norm and I in between 2 Yew trees which were planted either side of a porch at the church in Stow-on-the-Wold about 300 years ago. The trees have now become one with the structure of the building.
Today was a rest day for us, so we wandered around the town of Stow and sat in several public squares and green areas and simply watched life happening around us. We also had a drink in what is believed to be the oldest pub in England, which dates its history back to the 10th century. It was built by a Cornish Saxon Duke for pilgrims of the day. It is understood that these trees and the door were the inspiration for Tolkien’s Doors of Durin that guard the western entrance to the Mines of Moria.
